“El Orbe Intemporal” is a performance / show / installation that explores the timeless relationship between dreams and reality. Based on texts by the poet Jorge Luis Borges, it uses video and audio to distort and transform spaces exploring and questioning the regular paradigms of perception. The mixture with new media art represents the cornerstone of the work, based on the capture and motion tracking of gestures using infrared sensors, which modify audio and visual aspects in real time.
The first interface, dedicated to the production and manipulation of audio, was programmed in Max / MSP using Osceleton, Ableton Live and Max for Live. It captures the coordinates of the movements and translates them into MIDI data, allowing audio processes on a series of field recordings, transforming the way we usually hear ambient sounds in public / private spaces.
The second interface, responsible for a video projection on the participant’s body and the background as well, involves the combination of two video software: Resolume Arena and MadApps. The visual material was carefully selected according to give the illusion of a physical transformation of a determined space.
The interfaces are developed so that they can be operated intuitively by any participant / assistant, opening the possibility of leaving them in a continuous loop for the exploration of any user present in the venue. This installation is characterized by versatility; as it can be modified at will according to the location.
